Lizzie (Lawson) Mack
Elizabeth Ann Lawson (1858-1958) was born on 5th September 1858 in Dunfermline, Scotland, to John Lawson (b.1839, Dunfermline), himself an artist, and his wife Martha, nee Caragher (b.1839, Ireland).
Lizzie had at least three siblings, including Martha Louise (b.1861, Dunfermline), Edwin John (b.1863, Midlothian), Williamina Jane or Minnie, m. McLean (1867-1893) and Noel Paton (b.1869).
In 1886, Lizzie married Robert Ellis (Ellice) Mack, a writer, illustrator and book publisher, who would become Director of the London office of the publisher, Nister. They had a daughter, Jenny, who was born on 27th August 1889 in Kent and went on to be a schoolteacher.
Robert and Lizzie collaborated on several books, including Christmas Roses (Griffith Farran, 1886) and A Christmas Tree Fairy (Griffith Farran, 1887), Under the Mistletoe (Griffith Farran 1887) and Treasures of Art and Song (Griffith Farran, 1887).
Other books illustrated by Lizzie Mack include Little Town of Bethlehem (Illustrated with A. Wilde Parsons, written by Phillips Brooks, 1887), Old Father Christmas (Nister, 1888), I'll Tell You a Story (1889) and Nister's/Dutton's Holiday Annual (1890).
In 1939, Lizzie and Jenny, who was unmarried, were living together in Worcestershire.
Lizzie died in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, in 1958, at the age of 99.
