This illustration by British artist Dudley Tennant has been taken from The Cassell's Book of Knowledge from the 1930s, a children's illustrated encyclopedia published in volumes. The text on the picture explains that Red Indians got their name as Christopher Columbus thought he had reached India rather than the US.
