Reginald Allen Shuffrey (1886-1952) was born in Petersfield, Hampshire in 1886, son of James Allen Shuffrey (1859-1939), a bank cashier and amateur artist, and Esther E. Shuffrey.
The 1911 census shows that he was boarding with Howard K. Elcock, another artist.
After serving in WW1 where he reached the rank of Lieutenant, he married Gladys Irene Wallis in 1916.
Shuffrey did advertisements for The Motor, The Autocar, and other contemporary motoring magazines. As early as 1912 he was working for The Motor producing header sketches. He worked for The Morris Owner magazine from April 1924 and did many cover designs for The Autocar commencing on 11 November 1927 with an advert for Rugby cars.
Shuffrey was also a popular book illustrator of the 1930’s working on books for Ward Lock publishers and others. He also produced posters for the London Underground.
