These are the illustrations by various artists for 'The Romantic Ballet', a Batsford Colour Book from 1948. In the book, the author Sacheverell Sitwell reminisces about 19th-century ballet dancers.
This download features 17 hi-res images in JPEG format, scanned by us from an original edition of the book. They are all 600dpi and range in size from 3750 pixels wide to 5652 pixels tall.
As well as Jules Bouvier (1827-1881), other artists featured are Alfred E Chalon (1780-1860), James Warren Childe (1780-1862), William Drummond, James Henry Lynch (1803-1868), Sophia Mary Joy and André Numa Blanc de Lebarthe (1849-1922).
