This lovely flower image is by German botanical illustrator Georg Dionysius Ehret. He painted the original watercolour, which was then published as a hand-coloured copperplate etching around 1743 in The Natural History of Carolina, Florida, and the Bahama Islands, a landmark book managed and published by English naturalist Mark Catesby.
