Henry Franks Waring Biography
Henry Franks Waring (1875-1963) was born on 12th July 1875 in Milton Road, in what is now the SE24 postcode area within the London Borough of Lambeth, sitting in the pocket between Brixton and Herne Hill known as Poets' Corner. His father was Charles Edward Delaney Waring (b.1846), a civil engineer, and his mother was Emily Waring, nee Lennon (b.1840).
Henry had a brother, Edward Lamplugh Lennon Waring (b.1874). At the time of the 1911 census, Henry was working as an architect. In 1921, he is listed as 'artist'.
He married Katherine Margaret Wood (b.1899), 24 years his junior, in London on 3rd September 1919; however, the couple divorced in 1927. At the time of his marriage, he lived in Harbour Cottage, Bosham, Sussex. The marriage produced a son, Paul, born in 1921.
Through several censuses and other official documentation, Waring has declared his birth date as 1882 - this looks to be deliberate, perhaps a lie to his much-younger wife?
Waring illustrated 'A Book about Paris' by George and Pearl Adam in 1927.
By 1929, Henry was living/staying with his father in Priory Road, Bedford Park, Chiswick, and from there went to San Francisco. In January 1940, he arrived back from Cape Town. He may have married/lived with Mary Maxwell McCullough (d.1981) in South Africa.
He died on 20th June 1963 in Richmond, Natal, South Africa. He is buried in Richmond Cemetery.

William Morris’s Strawberry Thief: The Story Behind a Classic Arts and Crafts Pattern
Few William Morris designs are as instantly recognisable as Strawberry Thief. With its richly patterned foliage, small red strawberries and watchful birds hidden among curling leaves, it has become one of the most loved designs of the Arts and Crafts movement.
