Gordon Robinson

Gordon Robinson (1885-1952) was born in Barnes, South West London (then Surrey), in 1885. He was the youngest of four children born to Edward and Emily Robinson (nee Lucas). Edward (b.1846) was a mechanical engineer, and Emily (b.1849) was a housewife. Other children were Kathleen (b.1881), Kemp (b.1882) and Herbert (b.1883).

He was recruited into the Royal West Kent Regiment in 1916 for WWI, at the age of 31, and after the war, went to live with his sister Kathleen in Hull. By 1939 he was living in Kensington, London and was single. 

Robinson was a well-known illustrator, especially of children's books, amongst them being Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

He died in Kensington, London in 1952.
