Fannie Moody

Fannie Moody

Fannie Moody (1861-1948) was a British artist and the daughter of the British genre & animal painter, Francis Wollaston Moody (British, 1824-1886), who was also an instructor in decorative art at the South Kensington Museum.

Moody was a self-taught artist except for taking a few lessons from the animal painter John Trivett Nettleship (1841-1902). She became a well-regarded English landscape and animal artist, best known for her oil and pastel paintings of dogs and cats. Her animal portraits and studies captured her subjects’ playful behaviours while also revealing her deep affection for them.

Moody exhibited her works at the Royal Academy in London from 1888-1897 to critical acclaim. She received the Silver Medal in 1898 at the Crystal Palace Art Union for the best animal study and was a member of the Society of Women Artists (SWA). Moody received regular commissions for commercial work. Today her works can be found on numerous auction sites.
