Agnes Locke Biography

Agnes Locke

Agnes Teresa Locke (1859-1941) was born in Ashton-under-Lyne in Greater Manchester, UK, in 1941 to John Bernard Locke and Jane Locke, nee Sanderson, who had married in 1855. She had at least two siblings, including Helen Kate (b.1862) and Elsie M. (b.1861).

Agnes' parents were from Yorkshire, and it is there that Agnes worked as a governess early in her career. Agnes doesn't appear to have been married and by the 1921 census, she was living with her sisters Helen and Elsie in Frensham, Surrey.

Agnes illustrated Haunts of Ancient Peace by Alfred Austin in 1908 and one of her illustrations from that book was also used in Dion Clayton Calthrop's Charm of Gardens in 1933.

Agnes died in Surrey in 1941.
