Henry John Yeend King Biography
Henry John Yeend King (1855-1924) was a London landscape and rustic genre painter, who spent three years in a glassworks before devoting his life to his art. He studied under William Bromley and also with Bonnat and Cormon in Paris.
Yeend King was typical of many late Victorian painters of the rustic genre, often painting garden scenes with pretty girls. However, his robust 'plein air' technique and bold palette were obviously influenced by his Paris training. He married the sister of Robert Gallon's wife.
He exhibited widely between 1874 and 1924, including the Royal Academy, Suffolk Street, New Watercolour Society, Grosvenor Gallery, as well as in the provinces. He was elected RBA in 1879 and RI in 1886, where he later became Vice-President. He was also a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.
Works by this artist are in the Tate Gallery, Walker Art Gallery, Reading, Rochdale and Sheffield Galleries.

Why Book Illustration Deserves a Spot Beside Fine Art Paintings
Let’s have a proper look at something that’s always irked me: the idea that book illustration is somehow a lesser art form than fine art painting.
