Karoly Gerster

Károly Gerster (1859-1940) was a Hungarian painter and graphic artist known for his oil paintings, often depicting scenes with figures and landscapes.

He was born on 11th December 1859, in Pest, Hungary. He studied drawing in Pest, lived in America for a time, and studied in Paris under artists like J.P. Laurens and B. Constant, later teaching at the School of Industrial Design in Budapest. 

Gerster was a founding member of the National Salon, frequently exhibiting at the Műcsarnok.

His work is frequently sold at auction, often unsigned or signed "Gerster, K," portraits.

He died on 1st August 1940.
