Jacques Gustave Hamelin Biography
Jacques Gustave Hamelin (1809-1895) was born in Honfleur, France.
Hamelin was a painter of genre scenes, portraits, interiors, still lifes, and was an excellent draftsman. He studied under Ingres in 1831 at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1852 to 1874 and in Switzerland.
Eugène Boudin, a fellow native of Honfleur, appreciated the quality of his paintings.
There are works by Hamelin in the museums of Le Havre and Honfleur.
