Caroline Hall Biography
Caroline Hall (1892-1946) was born in Sunderland on 5th September 1892 to James William Hall (b.1863), a solicitor, and his wife, Ellen Ross Hall, nee Nelson. Siblings included Barbara (b.1891), Ellen (b.1895), William Nelson (b.1898), and Kathleen (b.1904).
She studied at the Sunderland School of Art and, in 1914, was awarded a bronze medal from this establishment for her book illustration and calendar designs.
By 1921, Caroline was boarding in St John's Wood, London, and working as an artist. In 1922, she married Harold Williamson, and they had a son, Roger Michael, born in Hampstead in 1924.
By 1939, Caroline Williamson's occupation is recorded as 'unpaid domestic duties', so it sadly doesn't appear that she carried on illustrating.
Caroline contributed illustrations for the Blackie's Children's Annual in the early 20th century.
She died in Petersfield, Hampshire, in 1946 at the age of 53.

Why Book Illustration Deserves a Spot Beside Fine Art Paintings
Let’s have a proper look at something that’s always irked me: the idea that book illustration is somehow a lesser art form than fine art painting.
