Guillaume Anne van der Brugghen Biography

Guillaume Anne van der Brugghen

Guillaume Anne van der Brugghen (1811-1891) was a Dutch etcher, painter, and draftsman. He was born in Nijmegen and studied under Pieter Gerardus van Os and Jan Hendrik Breijer.

He is chiefly known for his paintings of animals, particularly dogs, though his subjects also include landscapes, still lifes, and hunting scenes. He also produced some chalk drawings and etchings.

Van der Brugghen's works are reminiscent of Maris, displaying careful attention to natural form, precision, and refined technique. He worked mainly in Hilversum, The Hague, Nijmegen, Amsterdam, and finally Ubbergen, where he died in 1891.
