Herbert A. Rankin

Herbert Alfred Rankin (1864-1926) was born in Braintree, Essex, UK in 1864 to John James Rankin, a brushmaker and Annie Maria Rankin.

He trained to be a teacher as soon as he left school. He married Sophia in 1893.

Rankin had various teaching roles including at a London boarding school.

He wrote and illustrated several books for Sir Isaac Pitman & Sons Publishers including Simple Lessons in Colour, Pastel Work (or Colour with Crayons), Pencil Drawing and Simple Pictorial Illustration, with F.H. Brown.
