Gertrude Hamilton

Gertrude Emma Matilda Hamilton (1854-1913) was born in the St. Pancras area of London to Sydney Doolan Hamilton (1816-1891), a solicitor, and his wife Mary, nee Gale (b.1821), who had married in 1850.

She had several siblings, including Evelyn (b.1851), Douglas (b.1855), Ella (b.1856), Claude (b.1859) and Mabel (b.1860). Gertrude was later to live with her brother Claude, a journalist, and sister Ella.

Gertrude worked as an art teacher in a school and also took on some book illustration to supplement her earnings. The book Flowering Trees and Shrubs by Henry Hoare, containing 8 of her beautiful floral illustrations, was published in 1902.

Gertrude died in Surrey, England in 1913.
