John F. Branegan Biography
John Francis Branegan (1842-1909) was born in Ireland in 1842. He married Margaret, also from Ireland, in the early 1860s, and at some point emigrated to England. They had a daughter, Katherine (b.1866 in Staffordshire), sons John (b.1870) and Arthur (b.1879), who both became stained glass painters, and a daughter Margaret (b.1884 in Whitby, Yorkshire). The family moved down to London at some point after Katherine's birth.
In 1871, John Francis is shown in the census as being a stained glass painter, but by 1891 he is listed as being an artist in watercolours.
Margaret died in 1892, aged 49, and subsequently John remarried Henrietta, who came from Great Yarmouth.
John Francis died in the St. Pancras area of London in 1909.

Why Book Illustration Deserves a Spot Beside Fine Art Paintings
Let’s have a proper look at something that’s always irked me: the idea that book illustration is somehow a lesser art form than fine art painting.
