In the early days after leaving his art training, William Nicholson (1872-1949) dabbled with graphic works, including wood-block prints, poster designs and lithography. 

As well as solo work, from 1893 to 1898 Nicholson collaborated with his brother-in-law James Pryde on poster design and other graphic work including signboard painting and book illustration. They called themselves the Beggarstaffs, or J. & W. Beggarstaff.

As well as advertising work, the Beggarstaffs also contributed six poster designs to Les Maîtres de l'Affiche (The Masters of the Poster), a French monthly illustrated publication, published between nd

This download features some of the graphic works of both William Nicholson and James Pryde, as solo artists and as J & W Beggarstaffs.  Included are the six Maitre de l'Affiche works (A Trip to Chinatown, Hamlet, Harper's Magazine, Kassama Cornflour, Lyceum Don Quixote and Rowntree's Elect Cocoa) as well as Girl Reading, Cinderella Drury Lane and more. There are also several of Nicholson's book covers included, such as for 'The Owl' and 'Clever Bill'.

The download features 36 hi-res images, in jpeg format, that are all 600dpi or 300dpi and range in size from 2457 pixels wide/tall to 5691 pixels wide/tall.
