Warwick Goble (1862-1943) was an illustrator of children’s books who specialised in fairies, Japanese and Indian themes.

His style can be compared to that of Arthur Rackham, although his pictures are perhaps not as macabre and dark as his perhaps better-known counterpart.

Warwick Goble was born in Dalston, North London and was the son of a commercial traveller.  After completing his studies at the Westminster School of Art, he worked for a printer specialising in chromolithography and contributed to the Pall Mall Gazette and the Westminster Gazette.

He went on to illustrate many books including Charles Kingsley’s Water Babies, Treasure Island and War of the Worlds.

This collection of Warwick Goble illustrations includes The Complete Poetical Works of Geoffrey Chaucer, Constantinople, Folk Tales of Bengal, Greater Abbeys of England, Green Willow & other Tales, Indian Myth & Legend, Irish Ways, The Book of Fairy Poetry, The Fairy Book, The Water Babies and Turkey.

The disc also includes a comprehensive article about the copyright rules in both the UK and the US and how they affect each other.  Not only will you be able to understand the rules that put these pictures into the public domain, but it will also arm you with the knowledge so that you can decide if other pictures can be freely used in the same way.
