This download features 32 hi-res images, in jpeg format, that are all 300dpi and range in size from 1975 pixels wide/tall to 4847 pixels wide/tall.
In 1899, Edward Harriman, an American financier and railroad executive, sponsored and accompanied a scientific expedition to catalog the flora and fauna of the Alaska coastline. Many prominent scientists and naturalists went on the expedition, aboard the luxuriously refitted 250-foot (76 m) steamer SS George W. Elder.
This download includes all the colour illustrations from the book, including scenery and landscape (12 images) by explorer Frederick Dellenbaugh (1853-1935) and painter Robert Swain Gifford (1840-1905), birds (10 images) by Fuertes, flowers (7 images) by botanical illustrator Frederick Walpole (1861-1904), and a Kodiak bear and fox (2 images) by Charles R. Knight (1874-1953) who is better known for his illustrations of dinosaurs.
The pictures are out of copyright and in the public domain, so you are free to use them in whatever way you’d like, including commercial use.
