Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) was a prolific Flemish Baroque painter, renowned for his exuberant and dynamic compositions that often celebrated themes of mythology, history and religious subjects.

Born in Siegen, Germany, Rubens spent much of his formative years in Antwerp, where he became a master in the guild of Saint Luke.
