Arthur Rackham was born in Lewisham, London as one of twelve children in 1867. At the age of 18 he worked in the Westminster Fire Office as a clerk and began studying part-time at the Lambeth School of Art.

In 1892, at the age of 25, he left his job and went to work for The Westminster Budget as a reporter and illustrator. His first book illustrations were published in 1893.

Our new updated version now has 650 images including new pictures from the Vicar of Wakefield, plus the picture names have been improved to the standard of our other public domain discs.

This DVD features watercolour paintings by two artists, Philippe Robert (1881-1930) and George Flemwell (1865-1925). The latter was a prolific artist, producing pictures for many books on the subject of Switzerland, The Alps and Alpine Flowers.
