He was not related to his much better-known namesake Henri Matisse (1869-1954).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAuguste was a painter, illustrator and glass painter. He studied in Dijon and Paris and was later, like his namesake, associated with Fauvism, mainly painting maritime landscapes. In 1895, he became a member of the Société des Artiste Français and in 1924 designed the official poster for the Chamonix Winter Games.
