{"title":"Hadley, Hap","description":"\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eAlvan Cordell \"Hap\" Hadley (1895-1976) \u003c\/strong\u003ewas an American artist specialising in pen and ink representations of popular subjects.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHe created posters for various films, including Buster Keaton's The General (1926) and Charlie Chaplin's The Circus (1928) and \u003cstrong\u003eCity Lights (1931)\u003c\/strong\u003e, as well as promotional posters for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum \u0026amp; Bailey Circus and billboards for Roy Rogers. A movie poster of The General was sold by Christie's East on 5th December 1994, for $46,000.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHe was also an actor, performing in the 1920-21 Broadway revue The Greenwich Village Follies of 1920 at the Shubert Theatre in New York City and the 1924 film Floodgates.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSome works by Hap Hadley are now in the public domain as the copyrights were not renewed, as was required by US law at the time.
