His lectures and exhibitions attracted considerable attention, and he published several books, including \"Letters and Notes on the Manners, Customs, and Condition of the North American Indians\" (1841). His offers to sell the Indian Gallery to the US government were repeatedly rejected, and he eventually sold the collection to industrialist Joseph Harrison, who preserved it.
